Michael's Brainstorm

Original TwoP air date 7.13.2006
[Night time at an SV on location shoot. TW's trailer. A knock at the door. It's MR who invites himself in. He's holding a piece of paper.]
Hey Tom. I wanted to run some things buy you. Do you have a minute?
Actually I...
Great! Let's have a seat.
What's going on?
Well if the girls are going to be choosing music now I thought maybe I could have some input on the sound track for some of the episodes we've already written up.
I see.
I've got some great ideas.
[sarcastic] I'm sure.
Don't mock. 80's music will live forever.
Tell me something I don't know.
First off just so I'm not cramping anyone else's style I've tried to limit my selections to Lex scenes.
How considerate. You have a page and a half of Lex scenes?
Actually I've got every scene of every episode mapped out, some with two or three different possibilities. I'm only going to pitch the Lex scenes. If you like them then maybe we'll talk about the rest. Ready?
Ready as I'll ever be.
Great. Episode 1 when Zex is taunting Lana? Devo's "Whip it".
[Looks at him like he's crazy]
It gets better. Episode 2 when Lex is warning Lana that going after the aliens will be dangerous -- Kenny Loggins "Danger Zone".
[Checks his watch]
No? How about "Rapture" by Blondie? [TW is losing interest] Wait, you'll love this one! Episode 3 when Lex is addressing the meteor freaks the Clash's "Rock the Casbah"!
[Silence]
Well? What do you think? [Looks at TW expectantly] You don't like it. I can tell you don't like it. Luckily I've got a few aces in the hole.
Michael...
When Clark and Chloe kiss at the end of episode 2? Def Leppard's "Pour some sugar on me." [Pauses to look at TW] Not a winner huh? Lionel and Martha's kiss to Squeeze's "Tempted. You've got to love that, right? [another pause] Well, maybe the Eurythmic's "Love is a Stranger" might work for you better. You look like an Eurythmics guy.
Are you done?
I've just begun. When Clark and Chloe break up as he leaves I'm thinking either Flock of Sea Gulls "I Ran" or the Cure's "Just Like Heaven".
Michael, have you been drinking?
What? No! Well, maybe a little.
Look, it's late. Why don't I walk you home?
What about my ideas?
Leave your little paper here. We'll talk about it in the morning. OK?
OK. [They start heading out the door] Do you think we can fit Madonna's "Like a Virgin" in somewhere?
For a Lex scene?
Maybe the first time Lex and Lana...
Michael, please. I just ate.
Oh, sorry. Was it pie? Cause I could go for some pie right about now.
Let's just keep going, OK? [MR’s trailer is right next door to TW’s]
Oh, OK. Look, Tom. I've got a question for you.
What is it Michael?
If you look back at the 80's Lionel Ritchie had a ton of hits. But you never hear Lionel Ritchie songs anymore. Why do you think that is?
Do you think that's a bad thing Michael?
I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just wondering, you know? Because "Hello" is a great song illustrating Chloe's relationship with Clark.
There are a lot of 80's songs which would illustrate their relationship.
I know! There's...
We don't need to name them all Michael.
Well, that's the thing. We couldn't! There's just so many!
[In front of MR's door.] Here we are. You get a good night's sleep, OK buddy?
Thanks, Tom. You take good care of that list I gave you, alright?
Don't worry. [MR goes in. TW gets a serious look on his face] I'll take real good care of it.
[Next morning TW's phone rings]
Hello.
[nervous] Tom, last night I was working on this silly little thing and I can't seem to...
Don't worry. I burned it.
[relieved] Man. I owe you one.
Who's got your back?
You do!
Bye. [Click] [Reveal KK reading MR's sheet. AM and ED are sitting at the same table eating breakfast. KK is laughing so hard she's crying]
Journey's "Open Arms" for when Lex and Lana make up?
Hey, did you see Mr. Mister's "Broken Wings" for when Clark finally apologizes to Chloe?
[Confused] We haven't even written that yet!
It's on the back with the "Future Scenes". It’s right under Lois showering to "Wild Wild West".
Wait, how come Chloe's shower scene ended up getting "Don't fear the Reaper?"
'Cause she's got a fever. And the only prescription...is more cowbell?
